Hello.
My name is Vanessa Jones.
My business is called Annie Jane Art. You may ask, “Who is Annie Jane?” Annie Jane is my mother who passed away from breast cancer in 2008. If you ask me to describe her in one word I would say, “God-fearing.” If I can be a fraction of the type of woman my mother was, I will be great.
After my mother passed away I began making handmade greeting cards as a form of therapy. Before my mother became ill and passed, giving cards was one of the many ways she encouraged and uplifted others. I often heard stories from people who said they were depressed and thought about ending their lives but did not because they received a card in the mail from my mother with encouraging words and scriptures.
Most of the images I create are silhouettes. Their shapes are familiar images of people who may remind you of someone special— a friend, sister, mother, brother, father or husband. One day I made a card and put it on my desk at work to see if anyone noticed. I thought, “If anyone asked me where I got it, I will know I created something special.” They did notice. The positive feedback was powerful and overwhelming. The testimonies that I receive from customers is that the products they buy from me are hard to give away because they want to keep them for themselves.
Annie Jane Art is a way of paying homage to my mother and feeling her presence as I create. Through my art, she continues to uplift people and make them happy.
